Stash Report Thursday, December 29, 2012

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!!!

It seems hard to believe that 2011 is almost done and we are almost off and running in to 2012. Needless to say, I have been super busy the last few weeks, with working all those crazy retail hours and still trying to have a little fun during the holidays.

So here I am finally posting my last Stash Report for 2011. I just realized that I have not posted a stash report since November!! This month, I did use up some fat quarters that were donated to Sunshine Quilt Guild for a fund raiser. Will not be able to claim any usage, as I still have unfinished projects waiting for me in the sewing room. Being super busy at work does have it's advantages, as it has kept me out of the Quilt Shops. The only purchase I have to claim are the last two blocks for the Medallion Quilt. See photo below. This one will be on my UFO list for 2012.

Medallion Quilt
So here are the final numbers for 2011. Not to bad, but would like to shoot for 200 yards for 2012.

Used this week: 11 yards
Used YTD: 240.75 yards.

Purchased this week: 1.0 yards

Purchased YTD: 84.0 yards.

Net fabric used in 2011: 156.75 yards

Looking forward to continuing Stash Report for 2012. Check our Judy's blog at Patchwork Times if you want to join along.

Design Wall Monday December 5, 2011

Happy December All!

Have not had a chance to post in the past few weeks. My day job is in retail and this is a crazy busy time of year, where I am working 6 days a week. This, unfortunately, this leaves little time for sewing.

This week finds me trying to work on the Bonnie Hunter Mystery in between all the crazy work hours.  I am happy to say that I have completed the first two steps and with a little luck will be working on step three this week and be caught up. Below are the hour glass units, all 224 of them, and the 72 string blocks.

Orca Bay Step 1
Orca Bay Step 2
I also decided on a lay out for the Happy Birthday quilt, which was my UFO for November- will probably not get that one completed until the end of this month.  Decembers UFO will have to wait for 2012!

Birthday Quilt final layout.
Have a great week and don't forget to get in some sewing time along with shopping time!

Design Wall Monday November 21, 2011

Happy Thanksgiving All!  Enjoy your turkey and all the trimmings!

This week finds me working on the first clue of the Bonnie Hunter Mystery called Orca Bay. Check it out, you may want to get in on the fun.  Below is my progress- I am about half way through the first clue with the quarter square triangles that I just need to sew into hourglass units. I am using gold instead of the black that Bonnie uses for this step.  My other colors are below, purple, greens and neutrals-all from the stash.

Don't forget to take some time out from sewing to go shopping on Black Friday!!  Have a great week!

Design Wall Monday November 14, 2011

This week finds me working on my Happy Birthday Quilt. This quilt requires a whole bunch of half square triangles, that are then sewn into two different blocks based of your Birthday month and day. I will be making 80 of each.

Then the blocks are arranged  with a solid square in the middle.  You keep turning the blocks a quarter of a  turn, until you find the combination that you like, and then sew them all together. Here are a couple of ways that I arranged the blocks. Still a little busy, so I will keep turning. I am leaning towards the second one- but not completely sold yet. Will post the final later this week.

Not much to report this week- nothing used and nothing added. Still have a couple of projects in progress: Happy Birthday Quilt and Jamestown Landing. I am also gearing up for the first clue for the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt, which will be out on Friday.

This past Tuesday, at Sunshine Quilt Guild, I was lucky enough to win the Christmas Tree Blocks. There are some really great ones with lots of embellishment's. Below are nine of the twenty blocks.  Now to find the time to put them all together! It will probably end up being a UFO for next year. :o)

Design Wall Monday November 7, 2011

This week I am working on my Happy Birthday Quilt. I have about half of the half square triangles complete, with some to press and some to still sew. This quilt takes 672 of them. Would like to complete this as soon as possible as I am getting ready to join in on Bonnie Hunters Mystery Quilt, Orca Bay, which starts on   November 18th. The fabric list has been posted and Bonnie's colors will be red, blue, black, neutral. I am thinking of using green, purple and maybe gold or black with the neutrals. I will be using only fabrics from my stash for this one.

I have also finished  the Block of the month for Sunshine Quilt Guild which meets this Tuesday night. It was a pretty simple one and right in time for the Holidays. Below is my finished Block.

Have a great week and get in some sewing time! For inspiration, check out all the other Design Walls at Patchwork Times.

2011 UFO Challenge November 1, 2011

Here is my finish for October- Ruby Slippers. It will be added to the quilting que, along with all the other UFO's from this year. Just can't seem to get my own stuff quilted. Looks like that will be my UFO project for 2012!

Now on to November's UFO #3. This one is my Happy Birthday Quilt- a pattern by Lyn Mann. It is a two color quilt that I have been looking forward to working on. Check out her other patterns at www.quiltsbylyn.com.

Happy Monday All.

I am getting closer to completing the Ruby Slippers Quilt. The blocks are arranged on the floor-to big for the design wall, and I just need to find time this week to sew together and add the borders. My goal is to have it completed by Saturday. Wish me luck!

Sunday Stash Report October 23, 2011

Still no finishes for this week-but I am getting close. Should have the Ruby Slippers Quilt complete by the end of the week.  Picked up some great bargains this week at a Quilters Garage Sale. I was amazed by all the fabric, books, patters, and notions that one person had collected!  Found some great neutrals and purples for an upcoming Mystery Quilt with Bonnie Hunter. If you have never participated in a Mystery Quilt, I would encourage you to try it out. Looks like the new one with Bonnie Hunter will be starting mid-November.

All in all I added about 5 yards this week.

Used YTD: 214.75 yards.

Purchased this week: 5.0 yards

Sunday Stash Report October 16, 2011

No finishes this week- still have a couple of quilts in progress. I did have to pick up more of the red fabric below for the Ruby Slippers Quilt-my October UFO. I will be using it for one of the inner borders and possible the binding. Check back tomorrow to see my progress. Also picked up the next block for the Medallion Quilt- both are from Memory Lane Quilt Shop.

Design Wall Monday October 10, 2011

This week I will be working on my October UFO- Ruby Slippers. The pattern is from Miss Rosie's Quilt Company and really works with the fabrics that I have.
These were purchased a few years back during a trip to Huston and are Moda Fabrics. Below are the fat quarters that I will be using. The remaining fat quarters from this bundle will be used in for the backing- should help to use up quite a bit of the stash.

Fabrics for Ruby Slippers Quilt
I will also be working on the squares below that have to be but in half and trimmed for the Jamestown Landing Quilt that I have been slowly working on in between other projects. There are 840 squares to be trimmed and I am using my new Bloc-Loc 2.5 inch ruler to square up. Once I got used to using it, I really like it and it makes the process much easier. Check out the link above to see a demo of this great little tool.

Jamestown Landing first step.
Both of these projects should keep me very busy this week. Have a great week!

Could not resist the Bali Pops below that were on sale at Batiks Plus. Not sure what I will do with them yet, but I am sure I have a pattern or two that they will be perfect in. Also had to pick up a little more red for the Ruby Slipper Project that is my October UFO.

Here is my September UFO finished!  This quilt is 94x94 so had to take the picture on the floor. This one is the next up to be quilted and binded to go on my bed. It is hard to believe that I have now completed 8 of 9 UFO's. Next up for October is #5-Ruby Slippers.

This week I am working on the blocks for the Medallion Quilt. I have finished 4 of the blocks and will be  working on #5.  I have three more after #5 to catch up with this block of the month. The blocks are pretty easy to piece together and I really like the hand dyed fabrics. I pick up the next block from Memory Lane  on Oct 1.

Design Wall Monday September 12, 2011

This week I have more of a design table vs a design wall. Below is a big pile of stuff I am working on this week while up in Mammoth Lakes. The neutral and blue squares are ready to be sewn in the first step of the Jamestown Landing Quilt by Bonnie Hunter. This pattern was in Australian Homespun Magazine and will be published in Bonnie's next book.  My friend Sandi is making it in pinks-Check it out at kwiltnkats

The other pile are the rest of the blocks for Scrap Happy. There are 113 of them and I am almost finished.
Next step will be cutting the 256 sashing strips and then assembling the top.

Stash Report Sunday September 11, 2011

As I remember the10th Anniversary of 9/11 and where I was that day, my thoughts and prayers go out to all those that lost loved ones on that horrifying day. Stay vigilant America and never forget!

This week I am headed up to Mammoth for a week of hiking, relaxing and hopefully getting a bit of sewing done. No Quilt Shops up here so will have no opportunity to add to the stash. :)

Nothing used last week but do have a couple of purchases to report. Found a really great neutral to use in a future project- you can never have enough neutrals. Also picked up the next three blocks and the rest of the fabrics for the center medallion on the Medallion Block of the Month Quilt from Memory Lane Quilt Shop. Hope to get all the blocks done this week.
