Design Wall Monday

Stings and lots of strings this week! Working on all the string blocks for Dawns Early light. Hope to get everything prepped to take along on our trip to Whitefish Montana next week. Will be bringing the Janome on this trip to sew together the units and blocks.

Neutral Strings.

String Blocks

Also on my plate for this week are cutting the rest of the blue half square triangles. This quilt takes a lot of cutting and prep work, but it will be worth it in the end.

Strips ready to cut.

I hope to also find time to finish up the Snowflake Mystery quilt this week. It will be nice to have a finish for the Stash report.

Have a great week!

Design Wall Monday

Lot's of cutting going on this week. I have 500 red/neutral half sqaure triangles for Dawns Early Light, and still need about 140 more.

These are most of the pieces for the friendship star blocks. More cutting to come with 216 blue/neutral half square triangle needed.

Pieces are also cut and ready to sew for the 3rd installment of Snowflake Mystery quilt. Clue 4 will relase on Friday.

This will be my week-  a lot of cutting and a bit of sewing!
Happy Sewing!

Sunday Stash Report

A long awaited finish! Lilibet's Garden was started in 2006 and I finally sewed down the last leaf! It is looking a bit wonky and will take some miracle quilting to get all the puckers tamed, but with a little extra batting and some crafty quilting I might be able to make it work. Stay tuned...

Lillebet's Garden

This quilt finishes at 95x95- yes a big one. But with that it used up quite a bit of stash, 20 yards total with backing and binding.

Not a finish, but working on block 3 of our Snowflake mystery quilt. Below are blocks 1 and 2 together. Not sure it this will be the final layout, but more to come.

No stash enhancements this week! Below are updated numbers.

Used this week: 20.0 yards
Used YTD: 146.5 yards.

Design Wall

This week I will be working on Dawns Early Light by Bonnie Hunter. This is my August UFO, that most likely will spill over into September. As usual there are a lot of pieces in this one, along with string blocks that take time to complete.

Dawns Early Light

Also in progress are the blocks for the Mystery Quilt that Sue is hosting for our retreat group. Since we can't get together this year, Sue organized a fun, easy 4 week Mystery. I am playing a little catch up- as the first clue was giving when we were on our road trip. It is a Snowflake Strip quilt out of  2.5" Strips of your choice, and a background fabric. I am using a fat quarter pack that I purchased awhile back. It is greens and browns. Below are my first four blocks.

Next up week 2, which I will get done before the release of week 3 on Friday.
Happy Sewing!

Colorado Road Trip

Last week found DH and I traveling up to Durango and Ouray Colorada, where we visited a couple of National Parks, and a couple of Quilt shops. We stopped of at Mesa Verde National Park on the way, and Black Canyon of the Gunnison on the way home. The scenery was beautiful and weather was great- nice to escape the heat of Scottsdale for a few days.

First stop was Cortez, where we were able to shop in the Quilt store there. Then on to Mesa Verde, and Durango the next morning.

We stayed at the historic Stater Hotel in downtown Durango. Beautiful victorian hotel located with walking distance to everything.

We stayed one night in Winslow at the La Posada Hotel. This is an old railrood hotel right next to the tracks. It was fun to watch the trains go by!

Design Wall Monday

This week I will be working on laying out the Jelly Roll Dresden and hopefully getting it sewn together. I will still need to make the centers and applique them on, so will be hard to get it completed this week. DH and I are also taking a little trip to Colorado at the end of the week, so not much sewing will get done this week.

Dawn's Early Light

This is my UFO for August- Dawns Early Light by Bonnie Hunter. Yes, a lot of pieces in this one. String blocks and tiny friendship star blocks make up much of this quilt. I do have some of the strings completed from a swap done a couple of years ago, and a head start on some of the blocks, courtsey of Sandi.

First I will finish up JR Dresden, then get started on all the units for Dawns Early Light. Never a dull moment in my sewing room!  Have a great week.
