Design Wall Monday

This week it is lucky #1 UFO that I will be working on- Talkin' Turkey, by Bonnie Hunter. This is in her book "String Fling" and has strings in the blocks and the borders. Love this quilt and in my favorite color RED!

Below are the pieces that I already have ready. I will start assembling the blocks first and this is where I will use half of the 456 flying geese. (See previous post)

Next I will be working on the String Blocks for the outer border. I have lots of red strings ready to go!

This should keep me pretty busy this week and most likely for the rest of the month!

Hope you are working on something great this week and getting in some sewing time.

Sunday Stash Report

No finishes to report this week, but did make a couple of purchases at Country Cloth in Angles Camp. This shop just moved to a new location, but has been in the area for over 30 years. They carry a little bit of everything and always have some great frog prints on hand. Ginger, the owner, is always willing to order and ship anything that you might need. If your are every in the area stop in!

I picked up a few more neutrals and a red for use in some up-coming projects.

Here are the numbers for this week:

Used Year to date: 32.5 yards
Purchased this week: 2 yards.
Purchased Year to date: 31.75 yards.
Net Fabric Used in 2014: .75yards

Hope you are doing better than I am this year!! See how everyone else is doing at Patchwork Times.

The Geese are done!

Below are the 456 flying geese for the Talk'n Turkey Quilt. Each stack has 50, with the two smaller stacks at the bottom having 28. They have taken me the last 3 days to complete and my arm is very sore from all the squaring up with the rotary cutter. Glad these are done! The next element that I will be working on will be the string blocks for the border. All other pieces are cut and ready for assembling. That will have to wait until I return home from Sacramento.

Hope you are working on something fun and getting in some sewing time this week!

Design Wall Monday

This week I am visiting family up in the Sacramento Area. Of course I brought a couple of projects to work on! I have started working on the flying geese that are part of Bonnie Hunter's Talk'n Turkey Quilt. This quilt takes 456 flying geese units, along with some 9 patches and string blocks.

Talk'n Turkey

I am using Eleanor Burns method/ruler to make the flying geese. This was a technique that I learned in the Harmony Squared class at Road to Ca quilt show.  Below is photo of the squares all cut and ready to sew.

Will also be tackling the blocks for Second Hand Clothes this week. A lot on my plate this week. Wish me luck on finishing these two projects this week!

Design Wall Monday

This week I am working on the pattern below called Second Hand Clothes. I had already cut out about half of the pieces, so while on vacation last week I cut out the rest of the pieces. All the fabric is from my stash and it will be great to finish this one.

I also have the blocks below prepped and ready to hand applique down.  The one on the right is actually finished and just needs a little trimming. This is a block of the month from Temecula Quilt Company and I have only two more months to go!

Next up I will start all the cutting for Talk'n Turkey, another Bonnie Hunter Design.

Sunday Stash Report

This week I was able to finish my Star Fusion Quilt. This was started at a class during the Road to California Quilt Show in January. The pattern is by Janna Thomas and uses the Bloc Loc Rulers. If you have not tried these rulers, they are worth checking out. The website has a video on how to use them. They are great for squaring up those half square triangle blocks, flying geese, and many other blocks.

My Star Fusion is made a bit smaller (42 x 56) than the original Twin size, and I used black and white fabrics as the accents. I really like how it turned out. This is also my #4 UFO for March and it is done! Now on to something else-check out my Design Wall tomorrow to see what I will be working on for March.

Here are the updated numbers for this week and I am finally out of the red!
