Design Wall Monday

Wising you all Health and Happiness in 2019!

This week finds me with a couple of days off, after a hectic holiday season working in the store. I am working on Bonnie Hunter's Mystery Quilt, Good Fortune, and have some catching up to do. Have some of the red 4-patches done for the first clue, strips cut for the second clue, and green rectangles and neutral squares ready for clue 3.

Clue 4 and Clue 6 require strip pieces units, and I have papers and strips ready to go. Clue 5 are triangle in a square units. I am going to try to at lease get a few of each complete before the next clue is revealed on Friday. Check out all the clues here, you may want to join in.

I will be off to Rosies today, for some stash additions. Need a backing for Punkin, and a few more greens and blues. Will start out my 2019 stash report with additions, instead of subtractions.

Happy Sewing!

Sunday Stash Report

Hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas!
December is quickly winding down and with it 2018! This will be my last stash report for the year, but first I want to share what Sandi gave me for Christmas- all of my favorite quilting supplies and a super cute pattern for a Christmas tree runner. Thanks Sandi for such a thoughtful gift! Looking forward to making this one- it will be on my UFO list for 2019.

With my last Stash Report I do have a finish! Yes, the Bonnie Hunter Punkin Quilt is finally finished. This was a challenging one with much un-sewing going on. Borders were a bit hard to get all to fit correctly, but at least it is now done! I do like how it turned out and plan on making a table runner this next year to match.

So here are the year end numbers. Used just over 50 yards- Looking to improve for 2019. Check out post tomorrow for progress on Bonnie Hunter's Mystery.

Used this week: 13 yards.
Used YTD:  94 yards.
Purchased this week: 0 yards
Purchased YTD: 39 yards.
Net Fabric Used YTD: 52 yards.

Have a great week and enjoy the last few days of 2018!

Sunday Stash Report

It has been a busy couple of weeks for me. My day job is at Macy's and needless to say it has been a bit crazy. Not too much sewing getting done, so no change in the Stash Report. Working a little bit at a time on my Pumpkins and started Bonnie Hunter's annual mystery quilt. Pumpkins below. Can you see the couple of  blocks that needs to be changed??  I ended up have to do a bit of unsewing to get the top looking they way I wanted.

I pulled all of my red squares and strips from my stash, for the first step in the mystery quilt-red 4-patches. I have 40 complete with only 200 more to go. I am already behind by two more steps- next up blue/neutral half square triangles and green chevron units/half square triangles. Will be pulling fabrics today for both.

I usually have a hard time keeping up in December with completing the different units for the Mystery quilt, but come January I can usually get it finished. Below are current stash reduction numbers. Hoping for one more finish by the end of the year! Have a great week!

Used this week: 0 yards.
Used YTD:  81 yards.
Purchased this week: 0 yards
Purchased YTD: 39 yards.
Net Fabric Used YTD: 42yards.

Work has started on the second pumpkin quilt. This one by Bonnie Hunter and featured in the Sept/Oct 2017 issue of  Quiltmaker Magazine.

I am starting off with string piecing 49 pumpkin blocks, so I have cut a bunch of strips that are 1"-2" wide, and will be sewing them to the foundations.

I am going to try to make 10 a day this week and be finished with this first part by the weekend. Wish me luck! Have a great week and Happy Sewing!

Sunday Stash Report

I have been a little out of action for the last couple of weeks due to Surgery that happened on August 7. I had spine surgery to replace a couple of disks in my neck that were pinching some nerves. It was very successful, and I am well on my way to recovery. Back to getting some sewing done and yes, a finish to report. Antique Rose Star below, finished and looking good! I will be off work until September 10th, so hope to get a little more sewing time in and a few more finishes under my belt.

Antique Rose Star

A trip to Rosie's, yielded the fabrics below. First, from the sale room the perfect backing for Antique Rose Star, and I got a yard free! 5 yards for the price of 4, and on sale.

Next up a pink for the inner border and possibly binding, and a couple of fabrics to help complete the tree table runners-my next project,

Progress on the Antique Rose Star. I am still cutting more blocks from my scraps and trying to use up what I have. I am finding that I may need a few more browns to complete.

Four more blocks are almost complete. Will be cutting a more for the side units and then see if I have enough, Still not sure how big I want this one to be.

Design Wall Monday

This week on my Design Wall is Antique Rose Star. Below are two completed blocks. They remain in halves until all blocks are done and ready to sew into a top. I am using up all the leftover fabrics from my first Dear Jane Quilt- so pink and brown. Trying to use up the stash! The background has been in my stash for awhile so nice to use it up too.

Below are pieces ready to cut and sew. This pattern uses a template from Marti Michell called Kite and Crown. I am making mine with the 2"version. It looks like there are a lot of set in seams, but with the technique I learned, there are NO set in seams and it sews up in a flash.

I decided to sew up a bunch of units and then make up the blocks. So lots of combinations to choose from. I am starting with 12 blocks and then will see where it goes after that.

Have a great week and a Happy 4th of July!
Happy Birthday America!!
