Sunday Stash Report

No finishes yet! Have not made too much progress on my Dear Jane Quilt. We did not get back home until late on Tuesday, and I spent the rest of the week finishing up the quilting on the Opportunity Quilt for Sunshine Guild. I needed to get it done and back to Sandi, so she could put the binding on. It will be displayed at the San Diego Quilt show in a couple of weeks. Below is the Quilt and some close ups of the quilting. I like the way it turned out and hopefully it will sell a lot of tickets.

While in San Diego, I had to make a trip to Rosies! Found a number of fabrics for the Prairie Star project. Now I just need a few more darks.

So here is the damage for the week:

Used this week:  0 yards.
Used YTD:  58 yards.
Purchased this week:  10yards
Purchased YTD: 41.5 yards.
Net Fabric Used YTD: 16.5 yards.

I will need some quick finishes to get the used numbers going again! Have a great week and Happy Sewing!

Sunday Stash Report

No finishes for the week. I spent most of the week in Sacramento visiting family, and today I am off to San Diego to see the Grand kids! My sister and I did visit Quilters Quarters in Sacramento, so there were a few adds to the stash, along with finding a cute pattern for a baby quilt for new niece Avery.

Pearls Quilt.
The Pattern is called Pearls and is by Zen Chic. The fabric store did not have the pattern or any of the fabrics, so I was able to find the pattern Fat Quarter Quilt Shop on line. The fabrics are no longer available, so I am using a different fabrics for this quilt. It is super easy and should go together quickly. My sister found this super cute Halloween kit to make up and will be sending to me to quilt.

Costume Makers Ball

I also found a couple of fabrics for the Prairie Star quilt and some fun backgrounds.

Used this week:  0 yards.
Used YTD:  58 yards.
Purchased this week: 4 yards
Purchased YTD: 31.5 yards.
Net Fabric Used YTD: 26.5 yards.

Design Wall Monday

Dear Jane is back! And ready to be put together. This week I have started all the sashing strips for my Red/White/Blue Dear Jane. The blocks were all completed about a year ago, and I finally feel like I have the time and space to tackle the big job of putting in all together. Below are the first 8 rows on the design wall, with a couple of strips of sashing.

First 8 rows on design wall.
I am using the method that was posted here by Aunt 'Reen. This seemed to me to be the easiest way to attach the 1"strips to keep it all square and lined up. Check back later this week to see my progress.

Sunday Stash Report

Nothing finished and nothing added this week. Hope to change this week with finishing Sew Many Strips. A trip to Mulqueen's sewing may also add to the stash as I am in search of fabrics for my next up project, Judy Niemeyer's Prairie Star.

This will be a challenging project that I have always wanted to make and now that I have the time and a great wall to hang it on, it will be next up! No change in the numbers. Check back to see progress on Sew Many Strips.

Design Wall

On the design wall this week is Sew Many Strips. The center blocks are done- if you remember I had only finished one block back at our retreat in May. Now I have all 64 blocks done and will be sewing them together and working on the outer border. I have used up quite a bit of my 1 1/2 strips on this one.

This quilt finishes at a queen size, but I may be making it a bit bigger to fit on the King size bed in our guest room. It is nice to be back at my machine. I am loving my new studio. Now if I could just get the Longarm up and running. More on that story in an upcoming post. Have a great week!

New Design Wall.

My studio is almost complete. You can see the design wall leaning up against the wall, ready to be mounted on the wall.

Sewing/longarm stations.
DH helped me to get my new design wall in place. I used some directions that I found here. I did modify the size, making it a little be narrower to fit the space. I also used batting instead of a flannel sheet. I also ended up taping the batting to the back instead of stapling. I did tape the two boards together in the front- next time I probably would not do this, as you can see the tape in the front.
Up on the wall.
With quilt on the wall.
I like the way it turned out. It ended up 96" tall and 72" wide. I only did it 72" wide, as the longarm would have sat in front if it was any wider. It should fit most quilts that I want to make with room to spare at the top for something else. The Quilt pictured will be the 2019-2020 opportunity quilt for Sunshine Quilt Guild. It will be the first to be quilted once the longarm is running. Still have a few things to hook up to get it running.

Have a great week!

Trip to Sedona

DH and I have spent the last days, week, getting unpacked and organized in our new house in Scottsdale. We took today, our Anniversary to head to Sedona for lunch and a trip to the Dairy Queen in Oak Creek Canyon. Sedona is a two hour drive away and it was a nice getaway for the day.

The pictures do not do justice to how beautiful Sedona is- it is like being in a National Park. We had lunch at the Mesa Grill at the Airport. The food was great and outside they were grilling a pig and ribs for Happy Hour later in the day. It smelled great!

We stopped at Kachina House, where Judy gave us a great history on the different kind of Indian pottery and artifacts that they carry in their store.

Unfortunately no quilt shops on this trip. The only quilt shop was in the process of closing and did not have much left. Sad to see as we had visited this shop on a previous trip many years ago and it was a beautiful shop. Our last stop was the Dairy Queen in Oak Creek Canyon. A beautiful drive and dessert at the end.  Our next trip back to Sedona will be in the fall, where we plan to stay a couple of days and get some hiking in.

DH enjoying his hot fudge sundae.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my NQR post. Next up, the design wall goes up in the Studio!

New Studio

The Longarm and new table are being set up today. Hope to be back in business soon. Keith from Mulqueen's arrived at about 10am and had all in place withing two hours.

Before picture, still unpacking boxes of fabric!
Longarm set up day. New Table!

Machine in place.

Almost set up.
Unfortunately we had some glitches in the new system and the longarm is not quite up and running. I downsized my table to a 12ft, and as you can see it just barely fits the space with enough room for me to get around. With the new table, we upgraded the track system and had two new motors installed. We had some issues with the controller for the computerized statler system, so Keith will be back to trouble shoot the system with Gammill next week. In the mean time, I will be working on getting my sewing maching and a new design wall in place. I see some sewing happening soon!

Longarm Moving Day!

Moving day is here, well at least moving my Longarm. Most of my other stuff is already at the new house in Arizona. Keith from Mulqueen's in Mesa Arizona, drove over to San Diego to dismantle my 14 foot table and longarm and move it to Scottsdale. Keith has been very helpful with the entire moving process and I don't know how I would have moved it without him.  We will be switching out the table for a 12 foot and the new Breeze Track System. I have had my long arm since 2003 and it was time for a little update.

Keith starting the dismantle.
Keith was able to get the whole thing dismantled and on the truck in two hours. He then headed back to Arizona and will be setting up new table and machine on Saturday after 4th of July Looking forward to getting back to quilting soon.

Keith and I. He is getting ready to head back to Arizona.
Not much sewing or quilting getting done. Hope to be back at it soon!

Retirement Day!

It is finally here, today was my last day at work. I have worked at Macy's Plaza Bonita for the last 7 years as the Store Manager and it has been quite a journey. It was a great send off from my team, our district and the company. Below is my team in Bonita, who I will miss ever day- they are like family.

Team Bonita

My Office

My team gave me this box with Macy's Blocks and fabric to complete a quilt. It was such a thoughtful gift and will be the next project once I get settled.

Arizona Gift from Macy's Team

Here is Instagram posted by John Harper, our President of Stores. We had a corporate visit two days before my retirement!  What a great send off!

Sunday Stash Report

It has been a super busy and hectic time for DH and I these last couple of weeks. Good news! I will be retiring at the end of June! Very exciting to now have more time on my hands to get the stash down! The other big news is that we are moving from San Diego, to Scottsdale AZ! The move has been a work in progress, and DH is now over in AZ full time. I will be joining him the beginning of July after my Long Arm is on its way. We are super excited about our new home, but sad to leave our friends and family in San Diego. Hope to have more time to keep everyone updated on our Arizona Adventures!

Not to much going on in the sewing department.😞 Still working on Under the influence. Making progress, but not quite done yet.

Under the Influence

Not much change in the stash report. Purchased were a couple of fat quarters, no finishes, yet... and just barely staying in the black! With retirement on the horizon, I hope to make a big comeback!

Sunday Stash Report.

Back from our wonderful annual Retreat with Sunshine Quilters. It was a cold rainy weekend up at the Retreat Center in Temecula, but we all had a great time sewing, eating, drinking and spending time together.  Sandi brought her Mom, Betty, who came all the way from Maryland.

My sewing spot.

I spent the time working on Sew Many strips, cutting and sewing 1-1/2 stripe and then cutting them into the units for the blocks- there were many units needed. Below is my first block, with only 60 more to go!
Pile of strips!

Block #1
We all try to come up with creative little gifts to give, below are  the "goodies" that I brought home.

What a fun time we had, and looking forward to next year!

Design Wall

This week on my design wall is another Sewing themed quilt. Some of the fabrics were used in Happy Place, so thought I would just finish up using them for this second quilt called "Under the influence of Fabric". I am going to shorten the name to "Under the Influence".  I have had the pattern and fabrics for at least 10 years, so nice to be finally using them along with some others from the stash.

Check back next week to see my progress!

Sunday Stash Report

Wow, over a month since my last post. Time does fly. I finally have a finish to talk about. Happy Place, below is done and ready to be quilted!

Happy Place

Next up were blocks that were made for Sunshine Quilt Guild for our BOM. I was the one that got to bring for April, and thanks to Sandi who sent me the Disappearing pinwheel block to use. I was able to use up 8 yards of my stash in cutting up the blocs and extra fabric I will give to winner in May.
