Design Wall

Now that I am home, more prepping of applique blocks are getting finished. I am also working on all the hand sewing of these blocks, as I did not get much done on our trip. We were too busy, and too tired by the end of the day.

Also in the works this week is the I spy quilt. All the blocks are cut out and sewing is happening. I had to order one fabric, so waiting on that one to arrive. Yes, it will be an addition to the stash, but I needed just the right black on white for this quilt.

Happy Sewing!

Stash Report

Crater Lake

Back from our road trip to Northern CA and Oregon, where we visited 3 national Parks, drove almost  3000 miles and had our reservations at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon cancelled on us, due to a power outage. It was a fun, but busy trip and we saw a lot of beautiful scenery.

Nothing finished, but I did get more of the paper pieced blocks for Dear Hannah done. I am now about 3/4 of the way finished with the 110 blocks for this quilt. Still have more applique blocks to prep.

No changes in the Stash for the last couple of weeks.

More blocks finished and more blocks being prepped for Dear Hannah. Still a ways to go on this one. In between I am starting on an I Spy Quilt for my youngest granddaughter. So will be starting on all the cutting this week.

This nifty tool above was a gift from Sandi. It is from Sew Be It Quilts I really love it. It holds the fabric in place while you cut. This one is the 24" size. There is a smaller 14" version that I will be looking into getting in the future.

Happy Sewing!

Stash Report

No Stash report for last week. I was busy in San Diego with Family and Friends, so no quilting was done. Had a wonderful time playing tourist with a trip to Balboa Park, Old Town and La Jolla Cove. It was great to catch up with my grandkids, daughters and friends.

Above is the third charity quilt that I have completed in the last couple of weeks. It is a pattern from one of the 3yard quilt books. Super simple and fun to get these done. Most of the fabric was courtesy of Sandi!

Also completed right before I left, was this quilt for my grandaughter's teacher. I will be quilting it this week and hope to get it in the mail later this week.

Purchased were some red/white/blue fabrics. With memorial day coming up I have been feeling patriotic and will put these to good use for a table runner/ placemats. I loved the plaids and could not pass them up. Will use leftovers for QOV blocks.

Stash Report

Little Colorado River.

Last week was by Birthday and we spent it on a little getaway to Greer, AZ, about 4 hours away in the White Mountains.  We had a lovely time, with a hike along the Little Colorado River, a great birthday dinner at Molly Butler's resturant, a visit to the museum in Springerville, and of course some shopping at the quilt shop in Egar, AZ. The only downside was the wind, we had gusts up to 50 mph.

These were the purchases at Quilters Haven in Egar, AZ, a cute little shop with a nice selection of fabrics. Most of the fabrics above will be used as backings for some smaller projects that are in the works. So here is the damage for the week.

Used this week: 0 yards.
Used YTD: 29 yards.
Purchased this week: 7 yards.
Purchased YTD: 24 yards.

This was one of the more difficult paper pieced blocks from Dear Hannah. Blocks finish at 4.5", so you can imagine how tiny the pieces were. I think it turned out pretty good, but it did take a couple of hours just for this one block. Yes, a couple of hours! Only 93 pieces!!!!

Nothing added to the stash this week and nothing finished. I will be heading out on a short Birthday trip later this week, so may have an opportunity to hit a few quilt shops on the way.

Desigh Wall

Yesterday at our chapter meeting we celebrated 40 years of Sunrise Stitchers. There was a slide show of past events, a wonderful Lunch and cake. Also shared were all the projects made from BOM's, workshops and challenges during the past 40 years. I shared the tulip quilt below, from blocks that I won a few years ago.

We were all given this cute pin as a party favor.

This week I am working on Dear Hannah Blocks. Below are some of the applique blocks prepped and ready for hand sewing. They will be a take along on an upcoming trip.

More to come...... Happy Sewing!

Happy April!

This week I have pulled out my Dear Hannah and will start prepping more of the applique blocks for our future travels. I need to have something to work on while in the car and during those times when we are just sitting around. Our first tip will be in mid April and we are headed up to Greer AZ for a couple of days.

Here is a fast quilt that I will be working on today at my sewing group. Thank you Sandi!

Above are Tulip blocks that I won from Sunrise Stitchers a couple of years ago. Sunrise Stitchers will be celebrating its 40th Birthday in at our April meeting, and we have been asked to bring any finished projects that were done from Challenges, BOM, ect, to share. So I am going to try to get a little quilt or table runner made from these blocks.

I also worked on more of the couthouse blocks at my sewing group yesterday and hope to get them all put together and quilt top ready for quilting.

Happy Sewing!

Yesterday we had a sew day for my monthly chapter meeting. In the morning we had a great presentation by Heidi Pridemore from The Whimiscal Workshop. Her lecture, A few of my favorite things, talked about all kinds of different notions and how to use them. Even after all these years quilting, I still learned a thing or two. Heidi also shared many of her beautiful quilts, and the patterns that are available for them.
We then got down to sewing and I started on the Courthouse blocks above. I am trying to use up all of my 2.5" strips and put together some scrappy charity quilts. This will be my ongoing project for this year.

Slowly making progress on my Kitten Love quilt. I have about 30 more blocks to go, and will be trying to make 4-6 each day. Want to get this one off the design wall and on to the next project.
Happy Sewing!
