Design Wall Monday

This week starts another of my 2020 UFO's called Twister, and was purchased many years ago. 

The center is acutally a panel of 3" squares, which I have added a border to. It was a "cheater" panel for  the Twister Quilt so that you did not have to sew all the squares together. This week I am in the process of cutting each row with the template and then sewing them back together. It should end up looking something like the quilt below, although mine will be a bit bigger.

This is the second, (and last) Twister quilt that I will make, as the process involves cutting, sewing, cutting again and sewing the final top together. A little too much cutting and waste for me!

Sunday Stash Report

Frolic is finally finished, and is also one of my UFO's for the year. 

Frolic

It is a pretty big quilt at 85x85, and made with almost all fabrics from my stash. I even used up the extra pieces to make a few blocks to put on the back. I was a bit worried about the triangle borders fitting, there was a lot of bias in the quilt, but I was pleasantly suprised when it all went together pretty smoothly. One of the keys was to stay stitch the outer edges before putting on the inner border and triangle borders. It really helped to keep the edges from stretching.

There were a lot of extra pieces left over, so I used up most in the blocks above. They will be part of my scrappy backing of 10" squares. Using up the Stash!

Purchased this week at Modern Quilts in Phoenix (a great store if you are ever in the area) was a navy blue for binding the Dear Jane Quilt, and a couple of greys for a future project.

Hike up Pinnacle Peak

With all the rain this week in AZ, it was nice to finally get out of the house and do a little hiking up Pinnacle Peak. This is one of the more beautiful hikes that is close to our home, but is a bit strenuous due to the ups and downs. The wildflowers are just starting to bloom, and there was a lot of color on the trail.

Yes, the desert is starting to bloom. In a couple of weeks it will be all the cactus blooming.

Design Wall

This week on the Design Wall is hopefully, the finishing up of Frolic. Along with that I will be cutting out the pieces for my next UFO Checkerboard. Below are the Dear Hannah blocks that were also completed during our Road Trip. I prepped about 10 blocks to take with me and this will be an on again, off agin project as we travel.

As I mentioned in my previous post, we spent Sunday in Joshua Tree National Park on our way home from Mammoth. On my Bucket list is to see all the National Parks before I die. Joshua Tree- check!

This Park is relatively small, with most of the attractions. Keys View gives a great vew of The Cochella Valley. The desert flowers were just starting to bloom in the lower elevations.

We had a great time and would definatley reccommend a trip there in the Spring or Fall. Too Hot in the Summer!

Stash Report

DH and I spent last week skiing in Mammoth and then took a trip to Joshua Tree National Park on the way home. Skiing in Mammoth was fun, though we were both a bit rusty and only lasted about 3-4 hours each day. The weather worked out perfect with spring conditions.

This left a lot of time to get some sewing done, and I was able to get the entire center of Frolic completd along with sewing all the half square triangle borders.  It just barely fit on the floor in  out condo.Trimming and final completion will happen when we get home.

Design Wall

On the design wall this week while I am in Mammoth is, of course Frolic. Getting closer to being finished. Below are blocks all laid out on floor of our cabin. Just barely fits with table pushed  back.

Also I have been working on the Liberty pincushions, which are all sewn together, but will need to be stuffed and finished when I return. Looking ahead to my March UFO is #7 which is my Checkerboard quilt. Have the fabric all ready to go!

Sunday Stash Report

Happy March! 

Not much to report this week for the Stash Report. Nothing finished and nothing added. This week finds me in Mammoth Lakes on a ski trip, where I also hope to get some sewing in. Will be working on Frolic and have now completed the sashing strips and will be ready to start sewing the blocks together. Excited to get this one finished!

When Frolic is finished, it will finally put me in the black for the year. Just need to stop shopping!
