Design Wall this week.

Mammoth Mountain

This week I have been on vacation in Mammoth Lakes, getting in some skiing and a little sewing along the way.  When we arrived there was almost no snow on the ground and the skiing was not all that great, and, only a few of the lifts and runs were open. Fast forward to yesterday, and we now have almost 14 inches of new snow!!! Today we were skiing on powder and tomorrow will be even better with most of the mountain open and some grooming on some of the runs.

On to Sewing. This week on my temporary design wall, I worked on the Red String Blocks and Nine Patches that are part of a Swap. Sandi over at Kwiltnkats organized the swap and the blocks were due on Jan 27- I am only a little late and plan to get to her as soon as I return. Above is my Janome that I always take with me on vacation. I try to get a little sewing time in here and there. You can see some of the nine patches that I was working on and a big pile of red strings. Below are the finished blocks! Have them all packed and ready to give to Sandi as soon as I get home!

Tomorrow will be the first UFO Parade over at 52 Quilts. Aunt Marti will also announce our UFO for February. Be sure to check it out! It is great to see what everyone was able to finish for the month.

Road To California!

Last week my friend Sandi (Kwiltnkats) and I made the trip to Ontario CA, for Road to California Quilt Show. We took two classes, Star Fusion with Janna Thomas (Bloc Loc Rulers) and Harmony Square with Linda Ballard. Both were great classes. Here I am below with Janna and my Star Fusion Block.

Below are some of the blocks from the Harmony Square Class and a photo of Linda with the finished Quilt. Mine are the green ones in the center of the picture.

Sandi also had two of her quilts excepted into the show at Road. ( I quilted both of them) Her Kartwheels Quilt won second place in the traditional pieced category.  Boy were we excited to find out while in our Harmony Square Class. Below is Sandi with the prize winning quilt and with her other entry.

We had a great time at the show and in our classes. You will see both projects this year as they are part of my UFO's for the year!

Sunday Stash Report January 26, 2014

The first finish for the year!
I waited to post this until I was finished with my Celtic Solstice, which was today!!  I really like the way it turned out and love the circular motion of this quilt. This was started the Friday after Thanksgiving with Bonnie Hunter's Annual Mystery Quilt. This is also my #7 UFO finish
for Twelve in Fourteen and I will be sending this photo along to Marti for posting on her site.

Next up: Purchases for the month. Below are fabrics that were purchased for two classes that were taken at Road to California Quilt Show last Tuesday and Wednesday with my friend Sandi, Harmony Square and Star Fusion. The Star Fusion Fabrics did not make it in time so we picked black and whites to use. Hope to report finishes with them soon!

Design Wall Monday January 6, 2014

The first Design Wall of the new year, finds me working on my version of Bonnie Hunter's Celtic Solstice. I did mine in red, gold, purple and green, see below for some of the finished blocks. I like how my color choices turned out. I have all of the 54-40 or Fight blocks completed and just need to finish up the Birthday Girl blocks. This quilt will finish at 75x75.

I am also getting started on the red string blocks and 4 patches that are due this month in a swap with some of my quilting friends. Nothing like waiting until the last minute! Below are my strips, ready to go. These will be used in another Bonnie Hunter pattern called Talking Turkey. I have my work cut out for me this next week!
